Title: the like
switch is very much attractive and clear to understand and conveying high
probability of author’s intensity on the communicational concept in
contemporary era.
The book framed in to
the eight chapters including introduction, epilogue, appendix, bibliography,
acknowledgements, and an index. First chapter presents friendship formula which
is; friend=proximity+frequency+duration+intensity. Where one will be able
satisfy another person’s psychological and physical needs through the use of
verbal and nonverbal behaviors and communication. Second chapter deals with
getting the notice or signal before a word spoken. Chapter third deals with
the
golden rule of friendship. Chapter four deals with the laws of attraction such
like similarity, misattribution, curiosity, reciprocity, self disclosures,
personal attractiveness, humor, familiarity, association, self esteem,
availability, personality etc. fifth chapter deals with the language of
friendship; listen, observe and vocalize, and empathize. Chapter sixth to eight deals with building
closeness, nurturing and sustaining long term relationship, and the perils and
promise of relationship in digital world.
The idea of befriend is
strongly introduced on the very first pages of the book which is tested by
Schafer often times successfully during exercise on human behavior and human
nature. This befriend is for anyone seeking to make new friends, to maintain or
enhance existing relationships, to make brief encounters with people more
enjoyable, or to get better tips and bonuses. Even it ranged from convincing
people to spy on their own country to identifying perpetrators and convincing
them to confess.
The language of the
book is purely modern and easily comprehensive.
Book
carries a secular concept as “human beings are social animals” and proven
scientific knowledge and techniques in dealing with other individuals. In order
to be an effective communicator and befriend, there are three tools being
presented throughout the book or a strong emphasis is giver on them, such like techniques,
a knowledge in dealing with people, and finally constant practice of given
skills.
The goal of the book is
to buildup a proper relationship and the interest oneself from outward in
various life’s aspects which should be initially maintain it in to the digital
world. I highly recommend this
book to everyone to read.
